The phrase comes from the first paragraph of the sacred book of Popol Vuh, where the myth of the world’s origin for the Mayan civilization is told. Having selected this particular fragment is due to the historical, cultural and poetic load it has.

The building of constellations comes from a process where the human being creates an imaginary drawing from connecting dots in the night sky. Somehow the night heavens turn into a “space log book” where the human imaginarium is saved, primordial images that attest for their myths.

I record different information in my log books such as: phone numbers, dates, supermarket lists, prices, reminders, among other things. But within this files of every day information, there come up scribles and sketches made “on the go” that pretend to be something, an image, a sign, that is to say, they’re just a moment before becoming a word, therefore dark because of the uncertainty of their definition, at the same time being potentially something. In my mind there live figures like the skull, the devil, the star, the snake, that repeat them selves in my notebook/file I mean those scribbles start to mean something the more they repeat themselves and unveil aspects of the reality with which I’m obsesed such as: death, the stars, the unknown, fear.

The relationship among the scribbles and constellations has taken me to to research the Mayan mythology, my interest for that culture is due to the fact that I lived in Yucatan for more tan 12 years. When reviewing the mayan myths thereone finds the first chapter of the book of Popol Vuh, whre the steg previous the the birth of the world is told, when an eternal nightlingered in space and time, where the sky and the earth were one; the god’s words bring light upon darkness thus creating the existance of the world and all its things.
